LEARNING ENGLISH THROUGH GARDENING
SISTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
APARTADO, ANTIOQUIA - NEW JERSEY USA

Learning English thorough gardening is a program that is carried out in Churido Pueblo and Tamaques School in New Jersey.

This is a sister school program that has helped our students since they were in fifth grade, it has benn done for two years so far. In this project they learn languages, here they learn English and in New Jersey they learn Spanish by doing different activivites.

The project has had different activities where they learn about their culture, their lifestyles, their likes and dislikes and their school; the activites are donde in their classes or on Saturdays where they can have skype sessions and videos to share their experiences about the project or to ask and answer what they want to know about each other.

The result has been very rewarding since our students are more motivated to learn the language than before and they are using the language more often in the classes. They are not afraid to use the language and they are also curious to learn something new everyday.

One important activity was to receive the books they sent us, we reeived more that 50 books to read in class such as fairytales, short stories, abc books, vocabulary books, audio and books for teachers.

We are very happy to continue with this project year after year and we hope this can be done in primary grades to raise the importance of English language nowadays.

I would like to thanks TURBANA and FUNDAUNIBAN which has been the bridge to make all this happen in our school. This has been done thanks to this magnificent foundation in the region of Uraba.
